| Joomla 1.5 is almost here, now what? |

With the availability of Release Candidate 4, Joomla 1.5 stable is almost here. I've been exclusively using 1.0 (1.0.13a to be exact) for all client installs despite the promises of 1.5 release candidates and the widespread use of it already on a number of production sites. The question is - considering available extensions, what good is 1.5 (stable) to me now? I’ve not done an exhaustive search for 1.5-compatible extensions, but I recall during a recent review of extensions for 1.5, Fireboardwas one of the very few I came across with full 1.5 compatibility. Many other extensions claimed to support 1.5, but when I tried to install some of these on a local 1.5 install, many failed to install altogether, with or without the Legacy Mambot enabled. Unfortunately, the joomla.org extensions directorydoesn’t have a mechanism for listing only 1.5-compatible extensions. Nor does it have any mechanism in place for validating if an extension really supports 1.5 at all. So now I’m left with the impression that if my client only needs a Joomla site with the standard extensions and maybe a message board - and no plans for additional functionality in the foreseeable future, 1.5 is a solid option. Otherwise, I’m forced to continue deploying 1.0. Am I missing something? Add as favourites (0) | Print | E-mail
